How to Join a Match Online
You need the game installed first. Follow the download guide if you haven't yet. Once installed, follow these steps.
Launch the Game
Open MECCHA CHAMELEON from your Desktop shortcut or install folder. On first launch, click Allow when Windows asks for network access — this is required for online play.
Choose a Multiplayer Mode
From the main menu, select Online Play. You'll see two options: Public Match (auto-matchmaking with strangers) and Private Lobby (for playing with friends via a room code).
Public Match — Auto Matchmaking
Select Public Match and the game automatically finds a room. Matches fill quickly during peak hours — usually under 30 seconds. You'll be randomly assigned as either a Hider or a Seeker for the first round.
Private Lobby — Play with Friends
Select Create Lobby to get a room code. Share the code with your friends — they enter it under Join Lobby. The lobby host can set the game mode, round count, and time limits before starting.
The Prep Phase — Paint Your Body
When assigned as a Hider, you get a short prep window before Seekers are released. Use the paint eyedropper to sample colors from nearby walls, floors, or objects, then paint your white character body to match. The closer your color match, the harder you are to spot.
Freeze, Survive, Win
Once the prep timer ends, choose your pose and freeze. Seekers are now active. As a Hider, avoid moving — any movement gives you away instantly. As a Seeker, scan every corner for shapes that are slightly off — wrong color, odd outline, or something too centered.
All Three Game Modes Explained
Pick a mode in your private lobby or encounter them in rotation during public matchmaking.
Hide & Seek
The core mode. Seekers vs Hiders. Hiders paint and pose; Seekers hunt. Hiders win if at least one player is still hidden when the timer runs out. Seekers win if they catch everyone.
Infection Mode
Caught Hiders join the Seeker team. The Seeker numbers snowball as the round progresses. One skilled Hider surviving to the end wins for the Hider team. Highest tension mode.
Double Mode
Everyone alternates roles each round. Total score across all rounds determines the winner. Both your painting skill and your Seeker eye matter equally. Great for parties.
Built-in Proximity Voice Chat
MECCHA CHAMELEON has proximity voice chat built in — you don't need Discord or any external app. Players can only hear others who are physically close to them in the game world.
This creates incredible moments: you can hear a Seeker approaching without seeing them, or accidentally give away your hiding spot by breathing into the mic. Voice chat is optional and can be muted per player in the settings menu.
Pro Tips for Online Matches
Strategies that work in both public lobbies and private games.
Sample colors precisely
Use the eyedropper on the exact surface you'll stand against — not just a nearby wall. Lighting changes color dramatically between areas of a stage.
Scan for edges, not color
Good Hiders match color well. But silhouettes and outlines still give them away. Look for shapes that don't belong — a slightly rounded corner, something too symmetrical.
Pick realistic poses
A pose that makes sense in context is almost invisible. Wall art, floor patterns, shadows — blend into something the Seeker's brain will skip over automatically.
Check "empty" spaces twice
Hiders know you'll scan obvious spots. Open center areas and plain walls are popular hiding spots because Seekers assume they're safe to ignore.
Mute your mic when hiding
Proximity voice chat is live during the hunt. A breath, a laugh, or background noise will give you away to Seekers passing nearby. Mute before you freeze.
Move slowly in small areas
Fast scanning misses well-hidden players. Slow down in rooms with lots of objects. Walk close to walls. Hiders rely on you moving too fast to notice them.
